Indians third at Fort Loramie

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — For the second time this season, only the state’s elite were able to beat the Indians.
The Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team scored 85 points Tuesday to place third out of 13 teams at the Fort Loramie Invitational. It trailed No. 1 Coldwater (54), the defending Division III state champion, and Fort Loramie (67), which finished fifth in the state last season.
The Tribe boys finished with 265 points for 11th place out of 18 teams. Ninth-ranked Coldwater won with 64 points.
Elle Sutter placed seventh  in 21 minutes, 5.5 seconds to lead the Fort Recovery girls, who finished 18th in this week’s Division III poll voting. Abby May was ninth in 21:24 followed by Caitlyn Huelskamp (11th – 21:39), Jessica Vogel (21st – 22:11) and Sam Tobe (40th – 23:19).
Derek Sutter finished the boys race in 18:25 to pace the Tribe boys with a 15th-place finish. Joe Gonzalez was 38th in 19:27 ahead of Nathan Fullenkamp (51st – 19:51), Isaac Siegrist (86th – 21:02) and Mitchell Homan (102nd – 21:29).

Starfire boys cruise
LEO — The South Adams boys cross country team rolled to a pair of easy wins Tuesday, defeating the Leo Lions 15-49 and the Southern Wells Raiders 15-50. The girls team lost 19-39 to Southern Wells and 20-36 to Leo.
The Starfire boys swept the top five positions with Brody Shane picking up the win in 17:43. Joel Hawbaker was the runner-up followed by Simon Sprunger, Sawyer Miller and Clayton Rhoades.
Kristen Muselman led the SAHS girls team with a fifth-place finish. Aleesha Goodwin was 10th ahead of Lauren Klaehn (13th), Alli Amstutz (15th) and Lily Shane (17th).

East Jay dominates
HARTFORD CITY — East Jay Middle School
’s cross country teams dominated the host Blackford Bruins on Tuesday.
The boys team swept the top five positions to win 15-46, and the girls took five of the top seven for a 22-39 victory.
Skyler Myers powered EJMS boys with a winning time of 13 minutes, 5 seconds as he beat teammate Alex LeMaster by nine seconds. Dustin Bricker was third in 13:24 with Tim Hein fourth (13:27) and Trevor Moeller fifth (13:13).
Kendra Muhlenkamp had the top finish for the Chief girls, taking second place in 12:50. Sydney Mathias was third in 13:26 followed by Erika Kunkler (fourth – 13:42), Breea Liette (sixth – 13:59) and Alex Bader (seventh – 14:03).

Indians take 4th
FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Recovery Middle School girls cross country team scored 101 points to place fourth out of eight teams at Tuesday’s Fort Loramie Invitational. The boys were 12th out of 13 with 296 points.
Angela Heitkamp broke the 13-minute mark to lead the Indian girls with a fifth-place finish in 12 minutes, 59.26 seconds. Grace Gehle was eighth in 13:37 followed by Paige Hemmert (20th – 14:23), Sydney Alig (47th – 15:50) and Heather Klenke (51st – 15:50).
Harrison Kaup had the top finish for the FRMS boys in 49th place at 13:28. Jared Heitkamp was 58th in 14:03 ahead of Ty Francis (77th – 14:39), Rodney Hemmert (95th – 15:16) and Eddie Hemmert (97th – 15:28).

SAMS girls roll
LEO — South Adams’ middle school girls cross country team defeated Southern Wells 15-46 Tuesday and topped Leo 19-40. The boys team took a split with a 22-33 win over Southern Wells and an 18-41 loss to Leo.
Olivia Von Gunten picked up another victory with a time of 12 minutes, 2 seconds. Kara Seffernick placed third, with Eliza Harruff fourth, Hannah Coates fifth and Calyssa Lehman sixth.
Wyatt Miller’s third-place effort led the SAMS boys team while Briar Goodwin finished seventh and Kadin Gerber was eighth. Paul Neuenschwander placed 14th, and Logan Stephenson finished 19th.[[In-content Ad]]
