Indians win again in MAC (09/09/05)

FORT RECOVERY — The battle-tested Tribe showed up ready for another Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Thursday.
After dropping back-to-back matches to undefeated teams — Old Fort and Sidney Lehman Catholic — Fort Recovery bounced back to defeat the Minster Wildcats 25-18, 14-25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-9.
The Indians, who opened MAC play with a four-game win over Parkway last week, are tied with Versailles and defending Division IV state champion St. Henry atop the conference at 2-0. They are 5-2 overall.
Tiff Gaerke did it all in the victory, leading the team in kills (24), points (14) and blocks (nine). She was one off the team-lead in digs with 16, following libero Vicki Roessner.
Brittany Brackman reached double-digits in a couple of categories as well, totaling 13 digs and 11 points. Jennalee Post notched 43 of the Indians’ 52 assists, and Kelly Link had 10 kills.
Junior varsity
The Indians stayed perfect on the year, rallying from a game-one defeat to top Minster 22-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Joanna Snyder paced the Tribe, finishing with 11 kills. She also had 12 digs and six points.
Sarah Braun followed Snyder with seven kills and also had 10 digs. Heather Schmackers had 26 assists, and Angie Wenning scored 14 points.
Kinsey Wenning and LeAnne Tobin had 14 and 10 digs respectively as the Indians improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.
Freshman
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery looked good early, but fell back to .500 with a 19-25, 25-23, 15-6 loss to the St. Henry Redskins.
Annie Koesters paced the Indians (2-2) in the defeat with six kills and three blocks. She also had four points.
Kelsey Wuebker scored eight points, and Rachel Tobe had six points and four kills.
Junior high
Fort Recovery’s eighth grade team took its first loss of the season to host St. Henry 25-21, 11-25, 15-9. The seventh grade squad grabbed its first win, defeating the Redskins 25-21, 23-25, 16-14.
Haley Wilson powered the seventh graders (1-3) to their victory with 11 points. She also had two kills.
Holly Brunswick added seven points, and Deanna Hemmelgarn and Barbie Link each added six points. Nichole Kaiser finished with four kills.
Josie Guggenbiller and Emily May each had seven points and four kills for the eighth grade Indians (3-1). Nicole Pottkotter also had seven points, and Jessica Taylor notched six kills and two blocks.[[In-content Ad]]
