Ingle shuts out Warriors

BERNE — The Starfires got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. That was all the support Chandler Ingle needed.
Ingle shut out the visiting Woodlan Warriors on five hits Tuesday, leading the South Adams High School baseball team to a 5-0 victory.
Ingle struck out eight batters as the Starfires improved to 13-9 and 4-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. He gave up just one extra-base hit and one walk.
Jared Rife paced the offense for SAHS, going 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run. Corey Seffernick added a single, a double and a run, Blake Fox and Collin Affolder each had a hit and an RBI and Alex Augsburger added a hit and a run.

Flyers top Fort
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team beat Marion Local in a non-league game on the opening day of the season, but couldn’t repeat the feat Tuesday as it fell 3-2 to the host Flyers.
The Indians (13-11, 1-5 Midwest Athletic Conference), who topped Marion Local 6-4 on March 30, fell behind 3-0 Tuesday. They scored twice in the top of the seventh inning before their comeback fell short.
Chad Schroer took the loss, allowing two runs — one earned — on five hits and a walk in four innings. Elijah Kahlig allowed one unearned run in two innings of relief as the Tribe committed three costly errors.
Jackson Hobbs drove in both FRHS runs with a single in the seventh inning. Elijah Kahlig and Shane Pottkotter had one hit and one run.

Indians blanked
FORT RECOVERY — Offense continued to be a struggle for the Fort Recovery softball team Tuesday in a 10-0, six-inning loss to the Versailles Tigers.
The game was a scoreless tie through two innings before Versailles scored runs in each of the next four frames, including four in the fourth to end the game early. FRHS (1-16, 0-5 MAC), which has dropped 13 straight, has been shut out in five of its last eight games and has not scored multiple runs in a game since a 4-2 loss to New Bremen on April 22.

Ashley Homan took the loss, giving up 10 runs — seven earned — on eight hits and four walks.
Janelle Schwieterman and Homan had the only hits for the Indians.

Tribe JV wins
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team pounded out 15 hits Tuesday on the way to a 12-4 victory over the Marion Local Flyers.
The Indians (6-8) scored twice in the first inning and never trailed. It added three runs in the fourth and sixth inning, and two in the fifth.
Kyle Schroer ripped a pair of doubles for the Indians as he finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs. Ben Will added two hits, three runs and an RBI, and Nate Lochtefeld had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Mike Joash got the win as he struck out four batters in four innings while allowing two runs on four hits. Nick Litmer tossed three innings of relief.

SA girls win title
GARRETT — Caroline Kloepper won every time she stepped on the track Tuesday, leading the South Adams Middle School girls track team to the Allen County Athletic Conference title.
The SAHS girls scored 117 points to cruise to the championship over runner-up Leo (86). The boys were sixth out of eight teams with 24 points.
Kloepper swept the sprints for the Starfires girls, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.75 seconds and the 200 dash in 28.76. He was also part of winning efforts in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Addie Wanner finished first in the 100 hurdles in 17.06, and Olivia VonGunten posted a winning time of 2 minutes, 37.4 seconds, in the 800 run. Emma Rosswurm cleared the bar at 4 feet, 9 inches, to take the top spot in the high jump.
Wyatt Miller turned in the top finish for the SAHS boys, placing third in the 1,600 run 5:22.12.[[In-content Ad]]
