Jam set Sunday at Limberlost (7/15/04)

Taking Note

A bluegrass jam will be held at Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva on Sunday, July 18, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments to perform solo or jam with others.

Admission is free for the event. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy an afternoon of bluegrass music. The Limberlost cabin and gift shop will also be open.

FASHION SHOW

The Annual 4-H Fashion Revue will be held Tuesday, July 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jay County Courthouse Auditorium.

The show allows sewing project members the chance to model the garments they made for their project.

RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIPS

Indiana University East, Richmond, awarded scholarships for the 2004-2005 academic school year.

Receiving the Counselor Select Scholarship and $500 was Erin Haworth from Union City Community High School.

Lynna Sullivan from Union City, Ohio, received the 400 Club Scholarship.

The Harry and Marilyn Voyles Scholarship went to Christal Whetsel, Redkey, and Robin Anderson, Union City.

APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

The Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series has applications for its program that trains Hoosier women leaders for key elected and appointed positions. Since the program was founded in 1990 by Senator Lugar, business woman Judy Singleton, and Indiana State Senator Teresa Lubbers, 227 Hoosier women has graduated from the program.

The program begins in October and applications must be received by Aug. 1. Scholarships are available to cover the application fee.

FIDDLERS WANTED

The Indiana State Fair and Traditional Arts Indiana are accepting entries for the Traditional Arts Indiana State Fair Fiddle Contest.

The contest will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. on the WFMS Free Stage at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.

There will be four categories: Open Class-Division 1 (age 14 and under); Open Class-Division II (ages 15-59); Open Class-Division III (age 60 and older), and Old-time Style Fiddling-Division IV.

Contestants will be judged on rhythm, bowing technique, intonation, phrasing and creativity by three accomplished Indiana fiddlers.
