JCHS boys golf

GENEVA — Every Jay County High School player broke the 100 mark Saturday as the team built off of the success of its home opener.
After shooting a season-best 165 Thursday at Portland Golf Club, the Patriot golfers posted a 357 for their best 18-hole score to finish as the runners-up at the South Adams Invitational. They won the fifth-player tiebreaker with Evan Ryder’s 96 to take second place ahead of Shenandoah (357).
Garrett won with a 343, and the host Starfires finished seventh with a 404 in the tournament at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Senior Drew Houck set the pace with an 82 for Jay County, which had shot 390 and 393 in its first two 18-hole events of the year. He had three consecutive birdies on the third, fourth and fifth holes and shot 1-over-par on the front nine.
Evan Mathias, a freshman, followed Houck with one birdie and seven pars for an 86. Austin Mann shot 94, and Justen Keller rounded out the team score with a 95.

’Skins top baseball
Jay County dropped a double-header Saturday to the visiting Fort Wayne North Side Redskins, 12-4 and 9-6.
Chance Fuller’s three hits on the day, all in game one, led the Patriots’ offense. Andre Duke and Ryan Miskinis each had two hits and two runs, and Alex Dunn scored a run in each game.
Landry Inman took the loss in the opener as he went the distance.
Ty Huntsman suffered the defeat for Jay County (2-5) in game two.


Price leads boys track
MUNCIE — Cade Price was the only Jay County athlete to finish in the top three Saturday as the Patriots placed sixth out of seven teams in Class A at the Muncie Central Relays.
JCHS finished with 20 points, one-half more than last-place New Castle. Huntington North won with 122.
Price led the Patriots with his effort in the high jump, finishing second at 5 feet, eight inches. The team of Zach Cash, Joe Imel, Blake Crouch and Gerado Perez was fourth in the 4x100 relay in 46.9 seconds.
JCHS was also fifth in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Tyler Back placed fifth in the shot put at 40 feet, 2 inches.

JV softball rolls
OSSIAN — The Patriots got off to a hot start and cruised to a 9-2 victory over the host Norwell Knights.
Sara Bollenbacher and Abbey Vance each finished with a hit, two runs and an RBI Saturday to lead Jay County, which scored four runs apiece in the first and second innings.
Courtney Knight added a hit and an RBI, and Tasha McCowan scored twice.
Whitni Somers earned the victory, allowing just two unearned runs in three innings.[[In-content Ad]]
