The Jay County boys tennis team had a rough day at the always-difficult DeKalb Invitational Saturday.
The Patriots placed last in the eight-team field, with sophomore Kurtis Hess picking up the team’s top finish at No. 1 singles.
Hess lost his opening match of the tournament to drop to the consolation bracket. He went on to top his next two opponents, finishing fifth.
No other Jay County competitor had two wins on the day, as senior Derek Powell went 1-2 at No. 2 singles. The doubles teams of Randy Evans and Tyler Rigby also went 1-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Wil Goodrich went 0-2 on the day, as did Matthew Peterson and Adam Paxson at No. 2 doubles. The next Patriot match is today at Union City at 4:30 p.m.
Golf outing set
The Knights of Columbus/Jay County Special Olympics golf outing will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at Portland Country Club.

Bluffton holding tourney
The Parlor City 5-on-5 basketball tournament will be held at Bluffton High School Saturday, Sept. 20.
The tournament is for anyone who is 18-years-old or older and has finished their high school eligibility and will be played in a double-elimination format. The entry fee is $150, and trophies will be awarded to the tournament winners.
