Jay baseball rolls over Southside (05/01/06)

Twice the Patriots grabbed the lead Saturday, and both times they refused to let go.
After giving up seventh-inning leads in back-to-back games, Jay County regrouped for victories of 11-0 and 7-4 over the Muncie Southside Rebels Saturday. The team is now 6-7 on the year.
The Patriots racked up three runs in the first inning of game one, then got a solo home run from Josh Ludy in the third inning and never looked back. Michael Jobe went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, and Ludy had two RBIs and two runs.
Tony McCowan finished with a two hits and two runs, Luke Goetz had three hits and Josh Selvey notched two hits.
Josh Shatto tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out seven batters. He walked five and gave up six hits.
Jobe tossed the final three scoreless innings of game two to preserve the victory. Josh Atkinson gave up four runs on four hits in five-plus innings for the win.
John Retter doubled, scored twice and stole three bases, and Tony McCowan had a single, a run and two steals. Cory Locke also doubled and scored a run.
Junior varsity
MUNCIE — The Patriots scored in all but one inning of both games Saturday, defeating Muncie Southside 14-0 and 14-1 in a pair of five-inning victories.
R.J. Fuller, Justin Mann, Derek Barnett and Billy Wellman combined to allow just one run while striking out 18 batters. Fuller went the distance in the opener, and Mann got the game-two win.
Aaron Bogenschutz went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a run in the opener. Colton Lombardo, Fuller and Bryce DeBoy each had two hits and two runs., and Justin Mann scored three times.
Phil Powell went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs in the second contest. Lombardo was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs, and Dalton McGill scored three runs.[[In-content Ad]]
