A sweep of the 100-meter backstroke put the Bulldogs back in the meet. But Jay County High School's boys swim team came up big in the final two events.
Sam Miller and Jared Valentine went one-two in the 100 breaststroke, and the Patriots also won the 400 freestyle relay on the way to a 164-141 victory over visiting Celina.
The JCHS girls team came up on the short end of a close battle, falling 158-156 to the Bulldogs.
In the boys competition Celina closed to within two points as it took first through fourth places in the 100 backstroke. But Miller dominated the 100 breaststroke in 1-minute, 3.5 seconds, and Valentine placed second two seconds in front of the Bulldogs' Jared Ley in 1:17.19.
Aaron Hudson, Nathan Cain, Neal Fennig and Chance Milligan sealed the victory for Jay County as they teamed to win the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay by two seconds in 3:44.75.
Miller added a second individual win in the 100 butterfly in 54.83. He also teamed with Milligan, Lance VanSkyock and Wiley Young to take first place in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.49 and joined Hudson, Milligan and Fennig for a winning time of 1:38.93 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Hudson matched Miller with a pair of individual wins as he took the 200 freestyle in 2:01.14. Fennig surged in the final 25 yards of the event to place second ahead of Celina's Riley Smith by less than three tenths of a second in 2:05.02. Hudson was also first in the 100 freestyle in 54.72.
Cori Vormohr was the lone double winner for the girls team, which took just four events but stayed close with its depth. The senior took the top spot in the 200 individual medley at 2:21.42 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.79.
Fennig also had a close race in winning the 500 freestyle, beating Matt Feltz to the wall by less than a second in 5:52.5. Nathan Cain picked up a close win in the 200 individual medley, beating Kabe Eichenaur by 0.25 seconds in 2:29.24.
Jay County's girls had a solid start to the meet, sweeping the top three positions in diving. Megan Taylor earned another victory with 188.95 points with April Acker second and Tricia Skiver third.
