Jay breaks record, has 31 HRs (05/01/08)

JCHS baseball

MUNCIE - All that's left now is to set the mark so high it may never be broken.

The Jay County High School baseball team clobbered four more home runs Wednesday night, giving them 31 for the season and breaking the school record of 27 set last season. Long balls helped key a five-run second inning as the Patriots topped the host Delta Eagles 7-4.

The four-homer game followed a double-header Saturday in which JCHS (12-1) blasted seven home runs, including Thomas McCowan's record-tying grand slam. The record prior to last season was 25, set in 1998.

Phil Powell hit two of Jay County's blasts against Delta, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Josh Ludy and Michael Jobe also went deep.

Jobe had two RBIs and a run, Ludy had two hits, a run and an RBI, and McCowan added a double.

Billy Wellman picked up his second victory, giving up just one hit in five innings. He struck out four batters.[[In-content Ad]]
