Jay Co. 3rd at OAC meet (05/16/05)

CONNERSVILLE — It was a three-win evening for the Jay County track teams as they both finished third at the Olympic Athletic Conference Championships Friday night.

Senior Mark Kelly and junior Joseph Vormohr each grabbed conference titles for the boys team, which finished with 119 points. Anderson Highland won with 202 points, and Connersville was second with 143.

The Patriot girls won the first race of the evening, but it marked their only victory as they scored 111 points. The host Spartans took first with 207.5, and Anderson Highland was second at 179.5.

Vormohr dominated the discus, winning by more than 15 feet at 149 feet, three inches. He was also second in the shot put with a toss of 49 feet, eight inches.

Kelly took the high jump as he cleared the bar at six feet. He also added a second-place finish in the long jump at 19 feet, 63/4 inches.

Justin Gilbert placed second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.77 and 52.87 respectively, and Adam May was second in the 400 dash in 52.87.

The Jay County girls team of Allison Fullenkamp, Jessica Heitkamp, Jessica Mosier and Jill Roughia was first with a time of 10-minutes, 28.4 seconds.

Roughia added a second-place effort in the 800 run in 2:31.80, and Sarah Mescher was second in the 200 dash in 28.22.[[In-content Ad]]
