Jay Co. baseball blanks Generals (04/20/06)
JCHS baseball
FORT WAYNE — Michael Jobe is making a habit of helping himself.
In his previous start, the sophomore had two hits and two runs as he earned his first career win. He aided his own pitching effort again Wednesday as the Jay County baseball team defeated the Fort Wayne Wayne Generals 3-0.
Jobe drove in the first run for the Patriots (4-5), bringing home Tony McCowan with a single in the second inning. Andy Hughes added another RBI single later in the inning to score Josh Shatto, and Jobe took care of the rest.
He blanked the Generals, limiting them to just two hits and three walks. He struck out six batters in seven innings to improve to 2-0.
Jay County scored its other run in the seventh inning after Hughes drew a lead-off walk, and Travis Towell came in to pinch run. Luke Goetz pushed Towell ahead with a single, and Josh Selvey brought him home with an RBI single.

The host Patriots fell 7-6 to the Anderson Highland Scots in a 10-inning marathon.
Jay County trailed 4-0 in the opening inning, but clawed back and tied the game at five with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Both teams scored single runs in the eighth before Highland (4-3) posted the game-winner in the 10th.
Justin Mann never left the hill for the Patriots (4-3), allowing seven runs — three earned — on 12 hits and three walks in 10 innings. He recorded more than half of the outs by himself as he struck out 16.
Colton Lombardo went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, and Billy Wellman finished with three hits and two runs. Bryce DeBoy also scored twice.[[In-content Ad]]
