MUNCIE — The Jay County High School girls soccer team won its second straight game Tuesday, shutting out the host Delta Eagles 1-0. It defeated Centerville 5-2 Saturday.
Gabbie Mann scored the lone goal for the Patriots (3-5-3) against Delta at the 35:09 mark. It was her second goal in as many games.
She led Jay County with four shots on goal, while Catherine Dunn, playing in her first game since suffering a knee injury in the season opener, had three shots.
Stormi Canterbury had two shots, and Erica Reynolds added one. Lilly Rogers made four saves in the shutout.
The junior varsity team played the Eagles to a 0-0 tie. Cydney Huey and Kayla Ferguson both recorded shots on goal, and Emily Pogue made one save.
Eagles sweep Patriots
MUNCIE — The Jay County boys tennis team only won two games Tuesday, dropping all five matches to the Delta Eagles.
Delta’s Alec St. John defeated Jay County’s Nick Leuthold 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles action, and at No. 2 singles, the Eagles’ Bradley Wuthrich beat Jake Schwieterman 6-0, 6-1. Jordan Fenwick downed Kody Degler 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, the Eagles’ Jay Robillard and Nick Wilson defeated the Patriots’ Josh Lykins 6-0, 6-0.
Alex Krieg and Evan Mathias of Jay County fell to Collin Mercer and Jack Sanders 6-0, 6-1.
Smith leads EJMS
Jade Smith scored a touchdown in each of the first two quarters and Chiefs forced three turnovers as the East Jay eighth grade football team defeated the Muncie Wilson Panthers 14-12.
Smith’s first TD came on a 7-yard run, and Mitchel Frasher ran in the 2-point conversion to give East Jay an 8-6 lead.
After the Panthers retook the lead in the second quarter, Smith scored the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute to play on a 5-yard run.
Henry Hemmelgarn and Frasher each had an interception for the Chiefs, and Gavin Hare recovered a fumble.[[In-content Ad]]
