JCHS girls tennis
BLUFFTON - Three quick wins locked up the team victory for the Jay County girls tennis team Tuesday as it defeated the Bluffton Tigers 4-1.
Carissa Wilkins and the team of Megan Knittle and Cindy Muhlenkamp each pitched second-set shutouts en route to their victories for JCHS (5-3).
Wilkins gave up just a pair of games in the opening set at No. 1 singles for a 6-2, 6-0 win over Claire Peterson. Knittle and Muhlenkamp did her one better with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Lauren Dunwiddie and Heather Coratti at No. 2 doubles.
Still, the quickest victory came from Jessica Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel at No. 1 doubles. They won the first three games over Jenny Bennett and Jessica Meitzler before the Tiger duo was forced to retire because of an injury.
Jenna Valentine took the long route to the Patriots' other victory. After dropping a first-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles she controlled the next two sets for a 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-2 win.
The lone loss came at No. 3 singles, where Megan Adams fell 6-1, 6-0 to Amy Baker.
Junior varsity
Jay County swept the doubles matches to top the Tigers 9-4.
Brittany Lewis and Betsy Knittle led the doubles domination with an 8-0 victory over Sara Swanson and Samantha Drew at No. 1 singles. Adding doubles wins were Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman, Mizuki Saito and Michelle Landfair, Brittany White and Becky Muhlenkamp, and Kim Hein and Leah Upp.
Heather Ayers, Hannah McAbee, Mariah Clark and Jenna Wilson earned singles victories.[[In-content Ad]]
