Jay Co. divers finish fifth, sixth (01/27/05)

Local Roundup

PORTLAND — Jay County’s divers showed great improvement Wednesday, but like the swimming two days earlier, Anderson Highland dominated.

Brittany Lewis and Lacey VanSkyock both posted career-best scores for the Patriots. The Scots finished off their Olympic Athletic Conference swimming championships by taking both the boys and girls diving titles.

Highland’s Christian Wenner led a one-two-three finish for her team with a score of 378.95. Bryan Purnell grabbed the victory in the boys competition with 351.9 points.

The diving results did not chamge the final team standings, with Highland first, Connersville second, Jay County third and Muncie South last in both boys and girls.

Lewis topped her personal-best score by more than 20 points, finishing fifth in the seven-diver field. She scored 220.6 points.

VanSkyock destroyed her previous best mark of 147 as she finished sixth. Her final score was 209.90.

Mitchell Martyne (225) got his pin in 1-minute, 25 seconds, Nate Wood (152) added one in 1:46 and Scott Houston (105) finished in 1:54. Ben Theurer (115) won in 2:01, and Caleb Culy (110) ended his match in 2:59.
