Jay Co. draws Vikings in sectional

INDIANAPOLIS — It’s time to get acquainted with the Vikings.
Like the softball team last week, the Jay County High School baseball team got an opening-round game against the Huntington North Vikings in the IHSAA tournament draw held this morning.
South Adams will open against host Bishop Luers.
JCHS (12-10) will meet Huntington North in the opening round of the Class 4A Sectional 6 tournament at 5:30 p.m. May 23 at Huntington University. The other opening-round game will pit New Haven against Fort Wayne South Side, with the winners to meet in the semifinal round at 10 a.m. May 25.
Wayne and Homestead will follow in the second semifinal game May 25, and the winners will return to play in the championship game at 5:30 p.m.
South Adams (13-11) will play Bishop Luers in the first of two opening-round games in the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at Indiana Tech at 5 p.m. May 22. Eastside and Bluffton will follow, and the winners will meet in the semifinal round at 10 a.m. on May 27.
Second-ranked Adams Central will play Churubusco in the second semifinal game May 27, and the championship game will follow at 7:30 p.m.

JC netters draw Falcons
Host Jay County will open play in the girls tennis sectional tournament Wednesday against the Winchester Golden Falcons. The tournament draw was held Monday at JCHS.
Both semifinal matches will be played at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with the Patriots (3-10) taking on Winchester on the south courts at JCHS. Randolph Southern will play Union City on the north courts.

The championship match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.
Jay County is undefeated against sectional opponents this year. It topped Winchester 3-2 on April 15 and Randolph Southern 5-0 on May 7. Its match against Union City was canceled because of rain.

Tribe JV loses
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team fell 5-3 Monday to the St. Henry Redskins.
Nate Lochtefeld took the loss for the Tribe (6-10), giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings. Mitch Stammen allowed one run in three innings of relief.
Derek Backs and Stammen each had two hits and a run for the Indians.
FRHS also played Friday, turning in a 5-3 victory over the St. John’s Blue Jays. Evan Schoen led the way with a triple, a single and two runs, and Kyle Schroer and Brandon Schoen each had a hit and two RBIs. Nick Litmer went the distance for the win, striking out five batters.

Link leads Ponderosa
Carter Link did his job in the leadoff spot Monday, leading Ponderosa to a 17-11 victory over Barnett’s Auto Parts in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball. Pak-a-Sak defeated Williams Auto Parts 12-7.
Link singled in each of his three at bats for Ponderosa, and added three runs and two RBIs. Sam Myers and Ryne Goldsworthy each had two hits, three RBIs and two runs.
Kenny Carducci paced Pak-a-Sak with two doubles, a single, four RBIs and a run. Blake Johnson added an inside-the-park homer.[[In-content Ad]]
