The struggles continued for the Jay County High School boys soccer team as it fell 5-1 to the visiting Connersville Spartans.
The Patriots (0-5) trailed by just one at halftime, but gave up three goals in the final 13:04 of the game for the final margin.
Connersville (2-1) took the advantage 15 minutes into the game on a goal by Bob White, and added another score by Logan Nuekam six minutes later.
Jay County cut the deficit in half with 16:25 on the play that started with an Alex Dunn corner kick from the right side. In the ensuing battle for the ball, Dillon Ainsworth was able to get a shot off. It was deflected, but Colton Bartlett was able to gain control and knocked the ball into the net to make the score 2-1.
Neither team scored for the next 40 minutes until Anthony Nobbe found the net from about 25 yards out. Zach Bottomley and Nuekam each added scores for Connersville in the final 10 minutes.
JCHS finished with just three shots on goal, and Austin Cowan recorded four saves.
The Patriots won the junior varsity match 2-1 with goals from Seth Ainsworth and Josh Priest.

Golfers now 8-1
Cara Garringer earned medalist honors for the second straight night Tuesday, leading the Jay County girls golf team to a 190-206 victory over the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.
Garringer opened with a par of the 289-yard, par-4 10th hole at Portland Golf Club, and added another on the 101-yard, par-3 13th. She also had four bogeys in her round as she finished with a 44.
Jill Morrison led Winchester with a 47.
Abby Denney finished with one par and four bogeys to follow Garringer with a 48. Macey Gerber and Brittany Stevens each had one par and finished at 49.
Whitney Gray added a 52.

Netters stop skid
MUNCIE — The Patriot boys tennis team earned gave up just a single game at three positions Tuesday as it halted a four-match losing streak with a 5-0 victory over the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Jay County owned the No. 2 and 3 positions, getting 6-1, 6-0 victories at all three. Derek Smith topped Talon Craycrest at No. 2 singles, Landry Inman defeated Dalton Miller at No. 3 singles and Joe Imel and Drew Wood beat Devin May and Jacob Simpson at No. 2 doubles.
Brad Leuthold won the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-2 over Dylan Arnold for the Patriots (2-6).
Chance Fuller and Jordan McBride picked up a 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-0 victory over Joey Locke and Allen-Michael Morris.[[In-content Ad]]
