The season got off to a slow start. But Jay County came through with a winning record.
After losing three of its first four meets this season, the Jay County Summer Swim Team won four of its final five capped by Monday's 694-339 victory over North Adams Central at Portland Pool.
Twenty-eight swimmers contributed at least one win to ensure the team a winning record (5-4).
Sam Miller led the team with another record-breaking effort. He finished the 15-and-older boys 100-meter backstroke in 1-minute, six seconds flat, surpassing his previous record of 1:06.83.
Connor Daniels and Sok Vormohr combined to dominate the 11-12-year-old boys division. Daniels finished first in the long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, and Vormohr won the butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
In the 13-14-year-old division Caitlin Mark was first in the girls long freestyle individual medley and breaststroke. Zane Shreve added wins in the boys butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Noah Hummel turned in a trio of wins by taking the 9-10-year-old boys long freestyle, breaststroke and short freestyle.
Jay County also swept the 15-and-older girls division with Eme Miller first in the long freestyle and butterfly, Mary Hudson winning the backstroke and breaststroke and Cori Vormohr taking the individual medley and short freestyle.
Sophie Bader took the top spot in the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly and breaststroke while Anne Vormohr won the backstroke and short freestyle. In the 8-and-younger races, Eliza Bader scored victories in the girls long freestyle and short freestyle while Daniel Ostrowski won the boys long freestyle and individual medley.
Alex Bader led the way in the 9-10-year-old girls backstroke and breaststroke.
Other individual winners for Jay County were Elizabeth McDowell, Christopher McDowell, Tayler Smeltzer, Elijah Corwin, David Ostrowski, Juliana Blount, Audrey Shreve, Ian James, Alex LeMaster, Katy Smeltzer, Ashley Mark, Alyson Lucas, Lucas Holcomb and Alex Sutton.
The team closes its season Saturday at the Wabash Valley Conference Championships hosted by South Adams.[[In-content Ad]]
