Jay Co. freshmen clobber Scots (09/20/03)

Jay County’s freshman football team clobbered the Anderson Highland Scots Thursday for a 40-8 victory.
The Patriots scored in every quarter, racking up nearly 500 yards of total offense in the victory.
Casey Waters opened the Jay County scoring with a 45-yard touchdown reception from Josh Johnson in the first quarter. Waters also had an 8-yard scoring run in the final period.
Johnson added a 50-yard TD toss to Zach Chenoweth in the second quarter, and hit Justin Scieterman for a 19-yard score in the third.
Caleb Carpenter scored on a 25-yard second-quarter run, and Tom Smith ran in from eight yards out for the final score. Smith and Chenowether each had 2-point conversion runs.
Waters, Chenowether, Carpenter and Smith combined for 293 yards rushing. Johnson went 9-of-11 for 187 yards through the air.
The Patriots had a trio of fumble recoveries, one each by Ben Lyons, Justin Schwieterman and Tom Smith. Aaron Wilhelm had 11 tackles, and Waters recorded 10, with each picking up a pair of sacks.
New show to debut
Jay County High School will debut a new sports T.V. show this week.
“The Patriot Nation” will be the new show covering Jay County sports. It will be an all-encompassing show, replacing The Ray Review, Patriot Pride 365 and the coach’s shows.
The show will air after Jay Today on Mondays at 5 and 8 p.m. It will also air after Jay Today on Tuesdays at noon, 1, 2:30, 5 and 8 p.m.
The Patriot Nation will include a review of the previous week of Jay County athletics as well as a look ahead to coming events with The Commercial Review sports editor Ray Cooney and JCHS athletics director Brad Lindsay. Cooney will also interview the athlete(s) of the week, and interview one or two coaches each week.
There will be a new segment, in which Cooney will answer student and fan questions about any sports topic. The Jay County girls basketball booster club will meet Monday in the Jay County High School gym at 7 p.m.
Winter swim to start
The first practice for the Jay County Winter Swim Team will be Monday, Sept. 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Other practices during the first week of swimming will be Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All practices will be at the Jay County High School Pool.
The team is open to swimmers of all ages, but those interested must have some swimming experience. Schedules and other information will be distributed at the first practice.
