Jay Co. girls 1st at Muncie

MUNCIE — The Jay County High School girls track team picked up three wins Tuesday, placing first with 107 points in a quad meet at Muncie Southside.
Pendleton Heights was second with 55.5 points, and New Castle placed third with 43.5.
Malarie Houck won a pair of events for the Patriots (17-2), placing first in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Tasya Smith (200 dash), Ciera Barcus (high jump), Hannah Lykins (shot put) and McKensie Muhlenkamp (discus) also picked up individual wins for Jay County.
Erika Kunkler and Amber Huelskamp teamed up with Abbi Dunlavy and Sydney Mathais to win the 4x800 relay, and joined Morgan Brown and Lexie Myers to take the top spot in the 4x400 relay. Emma Laux, Taylor Homan, Smith and Myers combined to win the 4x100 relay.
Britlyn Dues (300 hurdles), Kellie Fortkamp (1,600 run), Laux (100 dash) and Dunlavy (high jump) all placed second in their respective events.

Big 7th sparks Jay
ANDERSON — The Jay County baseball team had a 7-3 lead heading into the game’s final inning.
The Patriots exploded in the seventh, scoring 10 runs to roll over the Anderson Prep Jets, 17-4.
Jay County (7-7) scored a pair of runs in the second inning and added four in the third to take an early 6-0 lead before the Jets scored two in the home half of the third. Both teams scored a run in the fourth and went scoreless for two innings until the Patriots offense came to life in a big way.

Keenan James led the Patriot offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Tanner Reynolds had two hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs. Wesley Hibbard launched his first home run of the season for one of his two hits on the day.
Kyle Selvey, Jason Houston, Levi Stant and Chandler Jacks all had two hits, with Selvey and Jacks adding two RBIs each.
Toby McCallister and Lucas Hendee also got in on the action, adding one hit apiece.
Chaz Carroll walked one and struck out eight to get the complete-game win.

Jay netters fall
The struggle continues for the Jay County tennis team.
Emily Westgerdes and Faith Parr picked up the only win for the Patriots in their 4-1 loss Tuesday to the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Westgerdes and Parr beat Viveko Melo and Mikel Prater 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles. The Jay County pair remains undefeated on the season.
At No. 1 singles, Jessica Kerrigan lost to Tylor Rabel 6-1, 6-3. Samantha Bartholome beat Jay County’s Morgan Kaufman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Kyra Braun fell to Sydney Clasby 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Sydney Bost and Shawna Miller lost to Victoria Haller and Haley Osborne 6-3, 6-1.[[In-content Ad]]
