Jay Co. girls open vs. Marion, boys play Vikings (09/29/04)

Soccer sectional

Jay County’s girls soccer team faces a bit of an unknown road in its sectional tournament. The boys team knows just how difficult its task will be.

The Patriot girls are in yet another new sectional this year at Marion, where they will open against the host Giants Monday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. The teams do not meet during the regular season, but both defeated Muncie Southside this year by the same 1-0 score.

The boys team did not meet its first-round opponent — Huntington North — this year, but knows it will be in for a tough contest after knocking off the Vikings 2-1 in last year’s tournament. The Patriots will play Huntington North in the first round at Blackford Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 5:30 p.m.

In the other first-round game at the Marion girls sectional, Norwell will play Marion Lakeview Christian Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.

The Jay County/Marion winner will meet the Norwell/Lakeview Christian winner in semifinal action Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. The other semifinal match will pit South Adams against Blackford at 7 p.m.

The championship game will be Saturday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m.

Jay County (7-4-1), which has played in five consecutive sectional title games, lost 4-3 to Norwell this year, tied with South Adams 1-1 and defeated Blackford Tuesday 4-2.

South Adams crushed Lakeview Christian Tuesday 7-0.

The boys tournament at Blackford will continue with Norwell meeting Bellmont in the second first-round game Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 5:30 p.m.

The other two first-round games will be played Thursday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. with South Adams taking on Marion Lakeview Christian and the host Bruins playing Marion.

The Huntington North/Jay County and Norwell/Bellmont winners will play in semifinal action Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. The South Adams/Lakeview Christian and Blackford/Marion winners will meet in the other semifinal at 1 p.m.

The championship game will be Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.

The Patriots (7-6) lost against Norwell and Bellmont this year by scores of 10-0 and 3-2 respectively. They defeated South Adams 4-1 and Blackford 5-4.

They will play at Marion Saturday, but do not play Lakeview Christian this season.[[In-content Ad]]
