JCHS gymnastics

FORT WAYNE - Another meet saw another jump in the Patriots' score. It just wasn't quite enough to knock off a state-ranked squad.

The Jay County High School gymnastics team broke the century mark and posted its best score of the season Monday in a 103.95-101.45 loss to the 12th-ranked Carroll Chargers.

Katie Snyder, a freshman, picked up the lone win for the Patriots, who didn't reach the 100-point mark last season until the regional meet. She took first place on the uneven bars with an 8.7.

Snyder was also the vault runner-up with an 8.95. She finished third on the balance beam with an 8.2 and scored an 8.85 on the floor exercise.

Nadlie Runyon posted a runner-up finish on the floor with a 9.45, and Kristen Ainsworth was second on the beam at 8.25. Ainsworth added a third-place finish on the bars (8.4) and scored an 8.35 on the vault, and Runyon had scores of 8.15 on the beam and 7.35 on the bars.

Melynda Brackman scored for the Patriots on the floor with an 8.45, and Lexie Rowles had an 8.35 on the vault.

Junior varsity
