Wednesday night's tennis match took some time. But for the Patriots, it was worth the wait.
Four of the five varsity matches went to three sets, but the Jay County High School girls tennis team won them all in a 5-0 victory over the visiting Madison-Grant Argylls.
The only match that didn't go the distance was at No. 2 doubles, where Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman took control by winning a first-set tiebreaker. They finished off Natalie Chapel and Courtney Sizelove in two sets, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
Jay County (3-4) was mostly in control of the third sets, with Hannah McAbee rolling to her victory 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 over Angel Lynn Robinson. Megan Adams gave up just two games in her final set, defeating Ashley Robinson 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Mariah Clark matched McAbee's effort, coming back from a 7-5 loss in the opening set to beat Jessica Petro 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. And at No. 1 doubles, Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp improved to 5-2 on the year with their second consecutive three-set victory, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 over Stephanie Powell and Lindsey Hudson.
Junior varsity
Kellie Howell led a singles sweep for the Patriots, who defeated Madison-Grant 4-3.
Howell defeated Allie Rodriguez 8-0 to win her match at No. 4 singles. Betsy Knittle (No. 1), Kayla Martin (No. 2) and Mizuki Saito (No. 3) also won their singles matches.[[In-content Ad]]
