Jay Co. netters win again (09/17/2008)
JCHS boys tennis
MONROE - Jay County High School's boys tennis team earned it second shutout win of the year Tuesday, defeating the host Adams Central Flying Jets 5-0.
Kyle Simmons continued his hot streak at No. 2 singles, winning his 12th straight 6-1, 6-1 over Kyle Andrews to run his record to 12-3. JCHS has won three straight matches and is 7-1 in September.
Phil Powell pulled back even at 7-7 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Landon Wheeler at No. 1 singles, and Chase Wellman (10-5) earned one of the Patriots' three three-set victories 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Josh Smith.
Both doubles matches went the distance, with Adam Horn and Jared Valentine knocking off Evan Timmons and Keaton Fiechter 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Sam Miller and Tylor Smith earned their second win of the year at No. 2 doubles, controlling the third set for a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win over Ryan Chochlin and Derek Poe.
Junior varsity
Jay County lost 4-1 to the Flying Jets with its lone victory coming in doubles action.
Chance Fuller and Brad Leuthold teamed to win at No. 1 doubles by an 8-4 victory over Adam Braun and Jarred Cobb. At No. 2 doubles, Austin Cowan and Matt Shrack lost 8-4 to Cody Wunderlich and Jacob Laskowski.
Seth Ainsworth fell 8-4 to Derek Hanni at No. 1 singles, Joe Imel lost 8-1 to Jon Weil at No. 2 singles and Tony Schwieterman fell 8-4 to Jacob Bergdoll and No. 3 singles.[[In-content Ad]]
