JCHS girls soccer

HUNTINGTON — For nearly 60 minutes, the Patriots could not find the goal. How quickly things change.

The Jay County girls soccer team scored twice in less than two minutes late in the game Saturday to forge a 2-2 tie with the Huntington North Vikings.

The Patriots (1-0-1) trailed 1-0 at halftime, and fell behind by two midway through the second half before the offense arrived.

Sophomore Dana Horn provided the spark, scoring her first career goal at with 11:34 remaining. Her chip shot from the right side, which glanced off the Huntington North goalie before reaching the net, cut the Vikings lead in half.

Junior Sara Garringer, who tied for the team lead with nine goals in the 2004 season, followed with her first score of the year just 1:30 later. The grounder down the middle tied the contest, and the teams played to a standstill for the final 10 minutes.

Senior Amber Champ had two of Jay County’s eight shots on goal. Colleen Knox, who accounted for the Vikings’ second score, totaled six shots on goal for Huntington North.[[In-content Ad]]
