Jay Co. swimmers blast Blackford

Alex Bader, Kaitlyn Dow, Jamie Valentine and Sydney Mathias set the pace in the pool Monday.
Each of them won two individual events apiece while contributing to a relay sweep for the Jay County middle school girls swim team as it rolled to a 240-42 victory over visiting Blackford. The boys team also won, 144-86.
Dow led top-four sweeps for Jay County in both of her individual events, taking the 100-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 17.67 seconds, and the 400 freestyle in 5:30.09. Bader’s wins came with times of 2:17.09 in the 200 freestyle and 26.41 in the 50 freestyle.
Mathias was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.18 and the 100 backstroke in 1:14.33, and Valentine posted winning times of 33.67 in the 50 freestyle and 1:16.37 in the 100 breaststroke.
Ian Reynolds and Joseph Holcomb took first and second in the 50 freestyle for the boys team with Reynolds winning in 27.75. Garrett Campbell took the 50 butterfly in 41.41, Daniel Ostrowski was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:10.06, Alex LeMaster was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:29.72 and Lee Habegger won the 100 breaststroke in 1:32.81.
Courtney Miles (88.55 points) and Cody Moser (71.85) finished first in the girls and boys diving competitions.
Jay County also competed against Bellmont on March 4. Bader was the lone double winner as she took the top spot in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Indians honored
Wade Gelhaus led a group of four Fort Recovery High School
basketball players who were named March 7 to the All-Northwest District teams.
Gelhaus was a first-team honoree in Division IV while Elijah Kahlig and Tori Lennartz were second-team selections. Kelsey Fiely earned honorable mention.
Gelhaus, who was also a first team All-Midwest Athletic Conference selection, averaged team highs of 9.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists during his senior season for the FRHS boys basketball team. He also scored 19.1 points per game, and has signed to play basketball next year at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.
Kahlig, a junior, led the Tribe at 19.2 points per game while hitting 62 3-pointers. Lennartz, a sophomore, averaged 16 points and 7.1 rebounds to lead the Fort Recovery girls team.
Fiely averaged 10.7 points and dished out 56 assists during her senior campaign.

Two finish sixth
INDIANAPOLIS — Two members of the Patriot Wrestling Club finished in sixth place this weekend at the Indiana State Wrestling Association Kids State Championship.
Mason Winner picked up a sixth place finish for the club in the novice division, and Rhysin Blowers was sixth in the pee wee division.
Landon Garringer and Ryne Goldsworthy each posted seventh-place finishes in the bantam division, and Sean Bailey was eighth in the bantam division.[[In-content Ad]]
