Jay Co. takes season opener
Jay County Summer Swim Team
DECATUR — Jay County’s young swimmers were more than ready for their season opener.
The Jay County Summer Swim Team dominated the two youngest divisions in their first meet Tuesday on the way to a 1,331-918 victory over host Bellmont.
Seven swimmers won three events apiece for Jay County, with Sophie Saxman and Mara Bader teaming to sweep the 8-and-younger girls division. Saxman was first in the short freestyle, long freestyle and backstroke while Bader won the butterfly, breaststroke and individual medley.
Josh Monroe added victories in the 8-and-younger boys breaststroke, individual medley and long freestyle.
Jay County was also strong in the 9-10-year-old division, with Konner Sommers and Eliza Bader taking the butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle in the boys and girls events respectively. Damian Hicks and Lillian Clemmons each won the long freestyle and backstroke.
Alex Bader finished first in the 13-14-year-old girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley. Josh Lykins won the same three events in the 15-and-older boys division.
Adding two wins apiece were Elizabeth McDowell, Kaitlyn Dow, Jamie Valentine and Sok Vormohr.
Jay County won 15 of 20 relays against Bellmont, which is in its first season. Bellmont and Adams Central swimmers competed together as North Adams Central before splitting into two teams this year.[[In-content Ad]]
