Jay Co. takes two from Spartans

CONNERSVILLE — The Patriots fell behind in the first inning of Saturday’s double-header, but fought back for a sweep.
Jay County High School’s softball team scored three times in the fourth inning and went on to victories of 10-3 and 9-3 over the Connersville Spartans.
Rachelle Jackson had a single, a double, three RBIs, a run and a stolen base for the Patriots (3-1) in the opener. Catherine Dunn went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Chelsea Tighe had two hits and two runs.
Dunn smacked a solo home run in the second game, and Taylor Franklin drove in two runs.
Jackson earned the game-one victory as she limited Connersville to three hits. Nikka Chaney gave up just one earned run as she picked up the game-two victory.
On Thursday the Patriots fell 11-10 to Delta after rallying to tie the game with eight runs in the top of the seventh inning. The junior varsity team lost 7-2.

Baseball stays perfect
Three players each picked up two hits Saturday as Jay County stayed undefeated with an 8-3 victory over the visiting Mississinewa Indians.

Ty Huntsman pitched for his second victory of the year for the Patriots (4-0), striking out eight batters and allowing just two hits in seven innings. He gave up three runs and walked six batters.
Alex Dunn and Kyle Selvey each had two hits, two RBIs and a run, and Dunn also added a stolen base. Devin Conatser was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Jason Houston had one hit, two RBIs and a run.
Jay County fell behind 10-3 in the junior varsity game on the way to a 12-10 defeat. Chaz Carroll took the loss, and Nick Clemens finished 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Golfers finish eighth
YORKTOWN — The Patriots finished eighth at the Yorktown Invitational for the second straight year, posting a score of 391 at The Players Club.
The host Tigers won the event with a 312, and Pendleton Heights was second at 329. Yorktown’s Palmer Hill earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par 75.
Senior Justen Keller paced Jay County, which shot 393 last season, with three pars en route to a 94. Richie Carducci totaled five pars as he finished three strokes behind Keller with a 97.
Adam Alfont added a 99, and Evan Mathias rounded out the team score with a 101. Dylan Friddle shot 113.[[In-content Ad]]
