Jay Co. tumblers cruise to victory

MARION — The season may still be young, but the Patriots are in mid-season form.
The Jay County High School gymnastics team cruised to victory Thursday, beating the Marion Giants 104.6-96.85.
Lizzy Schoenlein won two events on her way to her second-straight all-around victory. The freshman placed first in the balance beam (9.4) and the uneven bars (8.35). She was third on the floor exercise with a 9.15, as she had an all-around score of 35.7.
Tasya Smith, who placed second in the all-around competition with a 34.8, was second on the bars (8.3) and tied with Schoenlen on the floor exercise.
Malarie Houck picked up a couple of third-place finishes, posting an 8.7 on the beam and a 7.6 on the bars.
In junior varsity action, Jocelyn Huey picked up the top score on the beam with an 8.1.

Rangers top Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — New Knoxville’s Haley Horstman scored the first points of the game for the Rangers.
Then she kept scoring, and became the Rangers’ all-time leading scorer in the process.
Horstman had a game-high 22 points Thursday as New Knoxville beat the Fort Recovery girls basketball team 58-34.
The Indians fell behind 17-8 after the first quarter and saw their deficit balloon to 35-14 after two, as the Rangers shot 54 percent in the opening half.
Fort Recovery struggled from the field, shooting just 36.6 percent for the game.
Tori Lennartz led the Indians with eight points and four assists, and Kara Jutte scored seven points. Kendra Siefring tallied six points.
The Fort Recovery JV team also lost to the Rangers, 30-25.
Kirsten Jutte had eight points to lead the Indians, and Katie Stammen added seven.

Eagles fall to Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — Five West Jay Middle School wrestlers picked up wins Thursday, but the Eagles fell to Blackford 42-27.
Keegan Kane (160) and Nick Overla (HWT) both pinned their opponents in the first period, and Malcolm McIntire (90) and Devin Wagner (120) picked up wins by pin in the second.
Logan Drumm (125) beat his opponent by a 12-7 decision.
In reserve action, Tristan Thrasher (120), Chase Gillette (135) and Dawson Seyler (175) all won by pin in the first period. Ryan Scott (125) picked up a victory by a 4-3 decision.

WJMS drops pair
HARTFORD CITY — The West Jay sixth grade boys basketball teams lost Thursday to Blackford.
The WJMS A team lost 40-14, and the B team fell 13-8.
Peyton Nichols, Trevon Vore and Storm McLaughlin all scored three points for the Eagles’ A team.
Brennan Wasson and Dylan Bowler added two points apiece.
Vore controlled the boards, leading the Eagles with ­­­­­­­13 rebounds.
For the West Jay B-team, Lowe had five points and Carter Mitchell had three.

Tribe end with loss
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team ended its season with a loss to Versailles in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament, 35-28.
Derek Siefring scored nine points for the Indians. Payton Jutte and Braden Schoen both added seven points in support of Siefring.[[In-content Ad]]
