Jay Co.'s Wright placers third at state meet (02/28/05)
High Rollers
INDIANAPOLIS — Cody Wright did Jay County proud. Again.
Wright, a senior, completed another outstanding bowling season with the Jay County High Rollers by finishing third at the Indiana High School Bowling state meet Saturday.
His loss came to state runner-up Jimmy Cook, Decatur Central, 234-225, in the second-to-last match of the step-ladder finals.
Wright rolled just a 166 in his first game of the day, which had him sitting 11th out of 12 bowlers.
However, he bounced back with games of 226 and 225 to place him third, and the top four bowlers advanced for a chance at the state title.
He won his first step-ladder match, clobbering LaPorte’s Toby Klaus by a 235-197 count. But Cook, who also topped Wright in the championship match of last weekend’s Lafayette semi-state, proved too much in the next round.
Cook went on to beat Luke Matthys of McCutcheon for the state title, 242-223. Norwell’s Ashley Mann won the girls individual state title, Portage took the boys team championship, and Jasper won the girls team title.
For Wright, the third-place finish capped his second straight trip to the state meet.
He was fifth last year, just missing the step-ladder finals.
He was also the semi-state runner-up last season, and helped the High Rollers to the 2004 regional title.[[In-content Ad]]
