Jay County boys tankers tie, girls lose to South Adams (03/10/04)

The Jay County middle school boys swim team finished in a dead-heat with South Adams Tuesday, 81-81. The girls team lost to South Adams 106-64 despite another record-setting day by Cori Vormohr.

The boys team forged the tie despite just one victory. Lance VanSkyock, Trey Dunn, Steven Kelly and Ryan Sutton teamed to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:18.96.

Adding personal-best times for the boys team were Colton Smith in the 100-yard freestyle, Spencer Baker in the 100-yard breaststroke and Dunn in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Vormohr broke her own school record as she won the 100-yard freestyle for the girls team in 58.59. She was also first in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.43.

Vormohr also teamed with Jessica Bullock, Kelci Reed and Michelle Landfair for a season-best time in the 200-yard medley relay to finish first in 2:16.04. Briann Saxman joined Landfair, Bullock and Vormohr to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:02.57.

Hoops tickets

Advance tickets for the NorthWood regional boys basketball tournament are on sale in the Jay County High School athletics office.

Regional passes are being sold today until 4 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at JCHS. There will be no ticket sales Friday, and tickets are not guaranteed to be available at the door.

Passes are $9, and single-game tickets are not available.

The Patriots will play No. 7 Bellmont in the second of two regional semifinal games Saturday at Noon. Fort Wayne Elmhurst and Northridge will square off in the first game at 10 a.m., and the championship game will be at 8 p.m.

Redkey Junior League

The final sign-up session for Redkey Junior League baseball and softball will be Thursday from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Redkey Park Cabin.

Children who will be four years old by May 1 are eligible to play. Those interested must register Thursday to be guaranteed a shirt and hat for the season.
