Jay County falls short vs. Broncos

DALEVILLE — The Patriots went from dropping a shootout Monday to coming up short in a pitchers’ dual Tuesday.
A night after losing 12-11 in eight innings to Bluffton, the Jay County High School softball team fell 3-1 to the Daleville Broncos.
The game was tied at one through three innings before Daleville scored single runs in the fourth and sixth for the final margin. Abbey Vance took the loss, giving up three runs — one earned — on eight hits and a walk in six innings as JCHS dropped to 5-4.
Catherine Dunn recorded two of the Patriots’ four hits and also drove in a run. Chelsea Tighe added a single, a run and a stolen base, and Lexie Gierhart also had a hit.

Frankton tops tennis
Jay County slipped to 2-4 on the season Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to the Frankton Eagles.
Mackenzie McIntire and Brittany Stevens played the closest match of the night, but dropped a three-setter for the fourth straight match. They fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 to Christina Gray and Sydney Wagoner at No. 2 doubles.
Alicia Degler and Kyla McKibben lost 6-0, 6-1 to Rachel Spangler and Emily Swigeart at No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, Alyssa Rigby suffered a shutout loss to Alexys Rastetter at No. 1, Jessica Ooten dropped her first match of the season 6-4, 6-3 to Lawden Leveque at No. 2 and Melinda Penrod fell 6-1, 6-0 to Alex Munger at No. 3.
JCHS lost the junior varsity match 8-2 with the lone wins coming from Jill Dirksen and the team of Sydney Bost and Shawna Miller.

JV baseball loses

WINCHESTER — The Patriots suffered their fifth straight loss Tuesday, falling 6-3 to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Wes Hibbard suffered the defeat for JCHS (1-5) as he gave up six runs in four innings while walking five and striking out seven.
Jacob Priest and Hibbard each finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Shawn Winget and Chaz Carroll each had a double. Taylor Fugiett added a hit and an RBI.

Jacks leads Jay MS
The Jay County middle school baseball team split a doubleheader Monday against Cowan, dropping the opening game 9-1 and winning the second 7-5.
Chandler Jacks earned the game-two victory, striking out eight batters in a complete game. Ethan Foudray drove in four runs, and Lance Ferguson had a single and two runs.
Josh Vaughn suffered the defeat in game one as he tossed the first three innings. Andy Kohler had a double, and Allen Hitchens scored the lone run.

JC seventh goes 2-1
INDIANAPOLIS — Jay County’s seventh grade girls basketball team went 2-1 Sunday in tournament action at Perry Meridian Middle School.
The squad topped Columbus North 28-27 and Bloomington South’s B team 36-6 before falling to the Bloomington South A team 27-25 in the championship game.
Kyndal Miller had 10 points for Jay County in the win over Bloomington South B, and also shared the game-high of four points with Audrey Shreve in the championship.
Emily Muhlenkamp scored eight points against Columbus North. Shreve added five, including the game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds remaining.[[In-content Ad]]
