Jay County girls place fourth at Norwell Invite (02/09/05)

OSSIAN — Cori Vormohr had another record-breaking night Tuesday to lead the Jay County Middle School Girls Swim Team.
She snapped a pair of team records and was in on all three of her team’s victories at the Norwell Invitational. Jay County finished fourth as a team, just behind South Adams, at the nine-team event.
Vormohr won both of her individual events in team-record times. She was first in both the 100-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.
She also teamed with Briann Saxman, Michelle Landfair and Cori Vormohr for first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. That same group was also third in the 300-yard freestyle relay.
Saxman added a third-place finish for Jay County in the 100-yard freestyle. She was also sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Landfair took fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, and Ivy Simons was fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Fort to finals
The Fort Recovery seventh grade girls basketball team advanced to the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament finals with a 21-10 victory over the Minster Wildcats Tuesday.
The Indians (13-2) will host the MAC title game against Delphos St. Johns Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Tribe used dominating defense to defeat Minster for the second time this year. It had held the Wildcats to just eight points during the regular-season contest.
Nicole Pottkotter led the way Tuesday with eight points.
Emily May followed with six, and Josie Guggenbiller scored three.
WJ grapplers, cagers fall
West jay had a rough Tuesday as its wrestling team and sixth grade boys basketball teams took losses.
The Eagle wrestlers fell for the first time this season, 27-18 to South Adams. The sixth grade basketball A team lost 30-24 to Union City Westside and the B team took a 25-10 defeat.
Alan Brown, Sha White and Andrew Lancaster scored the lone varsity wins in wrestling. Jerid Conatser and Kaci VanSkyock added junior varsity victories.
Zach Cast paced the basketball A team (0-3) with 10 points, Ryan Miskinis had nine and Dakota Steed added five. Caleb Castle scored four points for the B team.
Tribe needs coach
Fort Recovery High School will accept applications for its head football coaching position until Feb. 28.
