BERNE - The margin was even slimmer, but the result remained the same.
Powered by a pair of triple winners in the oldest and youngest divisions and a couple of record-breaking efforts Saturday from Anne Vormohr, the Jay County Summer Swim Team won its second straight Wabash Valley Conference title.
Jay County won half of the events for 2,292 points to complete a perfect season by finishing just 12 points ahead of host South Adams. The margin separating the two teams last year was 381/2 points.
They were followed by Wells Community (19291/2), North Adams Central (790), Union City (394) and Randolph County (384.5).
Cousins Alex Bader and Cori Vormohr won three events in the 8-and-younger girls and 15-and-older girls divisions while Noah Hummel and Sam Miller matched them on the boys side. Three others also earned three wins for Jay County, and Anne Vormohr's two wins each came in record fashion.
Anne Vormohr set team and conference records in the backstroke. Her time of 17.86 seconds was more than a second faster than Abby Arnold's conference mark, and bettered her older sister Cori's team record by 0.51 seconds.
She also set a new conference record in winning the individual medley in 1-minute, 25.21 seconds. Arnold had the previous record at 1:25.40.
Cori Stone, Sophie Bader and Anne Vormohr also broke a record they previously held with teammate Amelia Freeman. This time they joined Katy Smeltzer to take the freestyle relay in 1:08.16, knocking off their previous team mark of 1:08.87.
Alex Bader, Cori Vormohr and Sam Miller all won the butterfly and individual medley in their division. Bader added a win in the long freestyle, Vormohr was first in the breaststroke and Miller took the top spot in the short freestyle.
Hummel also took first in the individual medley while adding wins in the long and short freestyle.
In the 9-10-year-old girls division Sophie Bader picked up victories in the girls long freestyle, butterfly and short freestyle, and Caitlin Mark won the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Neal Fennig's three wins in the 13-14-year-old boys division came in the long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle.
Adding two wins along with Anne Vormohr were Wiley Young and Tom McCord. Brandt Pearson, Zane Shreve and Michelle Landfair each added conference titles in one event.[[In-content Ad]]
