Jay County golfers defeat Bluffton

BLUFFTON - The Jay County High School boys golf team managed just four pars Thursday but still walked away with a 194-203 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.

Drew Houck turned in two of the pars in leading the Patriots (2-1) at Timber Ridge Golf Course. He played even on the 310-yard, par-4 third hole and the 349-yard, par-4 ninth to finish with a 46.

Tyler Mohler of Bluffton earned medalist honors with a 42, but no other Tiger scored in the 40s.

Mitchel Rigby also parred the third hole as he finished with a 48, and Evan Ryder had a par of the 361-yard, par-4 fourth hole on the way to a 50. Austin Mann rounded out the team score with a 51, and Jacob Heitkamp shot 54.

Seth Ainsworth had a 50 in junior varsity competition, and Ritchie Carducci shot 58.

JV baseball tops Jets

The Patriots scored 10 runs in the first three innings Thursday as they rolled to an 11-1, five-inning win over the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.

Ryan Miskinis paced the offensive outburst, going 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Alex Dunn added two hits and two RBIs, Drew Wood was 2-for-2 with a double and Jordan McBride scored a pair of runs.

Phil Anderson tossed two innings to earn the win for JCHS (3-5), and Devin Conatser and Calvin Wyatt each pitched in relief.

Houck leads EJMS

Malarie Houck won three events Thursday to lead the East Jay Middle School girls track team to a 65-35 victory over visiting Muncie Northside. The boys team lost, 58-42.

Houck took first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.3 seconds for the Chiefs and was also first in the 200 dash in 28.3. She added a leap of 14 feet, 3 ΒΌ inches to take the top spot in the long jump.

Abigail Johnson posted victories in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches and the 1,600 run with a time of 6 minutes, 7 seconds.

Zane Shreve earned three of the four individual wins for the boys team, taking the long jump at 15 feet and the high jump at 5 feet, 5 inches. He was also first in the 100 hurdles in 16.7.

Other wins for the girls team came from Tasya Smith (100 dash), Amber Huelskamp (400 dash) and Rachel Vogler (discus). Brad Leuthold won the 400 dash for the boys team.

Ace at Portland

Warren Lowe turned in the first hole-in-one of 2010 at Portland Golf Club this week.

Lowe used a 6-iron to ace the 129-yard, par-3 eighth hole. It was the third hole-in-one of his career.[[In-content Ad]]
