Jay County gymnasts defeat Devils

RICHMOND - The Jay County High School gymnastics team extended its perfect record Saturday and kept its team score surging in the right direction.

The Patriots turned in their best score of the season by nearly three points and swept three out of four events in a 98.375-89.025 victory over the Richmond Red Devils.

Katie Snyder led the all-around competition and placed in all four events for JCHS while Kristen Ainsworth turned in a pair of victories.

Snyder's win came on the vault with a 9.25 to lead her to the top all-around total of 33.4. The freshman was also second on the floor exercise at 8.45, and third on both the balance beam (8.0) and uneven bars (7.7).

Ainsworth, a junior, led JCHS sweeps with each of her two victories. She posted scores of 8.475 on the floor and 7.9 on the bars, and finished second in the all-around at 32.725.

Senior Nadlie Runyon was second on both the vault (8.725) and bars (7.85), and added a 6.95 on the beam. Lexie Rowles was third on the vault with an 8.25, Melynda Brackman finished third on the floor with an 8.25 and Kyli Kelso added a 7.1 on the beam.

Three Patriots win at AC

MONROE - Drake Meska, Matt James and Kyle Garringer all won their weight class Saturday as the Jay County wrestling team placed fifth at the Adams Central Invitational.

The Patriots scored 128 points to finish 17 behind Olympic Athletic Conference rival Anderson Highland in the eight-team field. Bishop Dwenger won with 220.5, and the host Flying Jets were second at 218.

James (215), Meska (130) and Garringer (189) all turned in perfect 3-0 records to lead JCHS. Kyler Blowers was the runner-up in the heavyweight division as he finished 2-1.

Nathan Drumm (135), Nick Leonhard (145) and Eric Beougher (160) all posted 2-2 marks.

Tribe freshmen perfect

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery freshman girls basketball team ran its undefeated record to 5-0 Saturday with a 39-24 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers.

Amy Link and Kelsey Fiely each scored eight points to pace the Indians. Janelle Schwieterman and Chelsea Pottkotter each added five points.

FR takes 1st loss

The Versailles Tigers handed the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team its first loss of the season Saturday, 37-24. The Tribe seventh graders also fell, 39-18.

Jacob Muhlenkamp scored six points for the eighth grade Indians, who dropped to 5-1. Elijah Kahlig and Josh Pohl each added four points.

Evan Schoen totaled eight points to lead the seventh graders.[[In-content Ad]]
