Jay County gymnasts win at Richmond (01/07/08)

RICHMOND - The Jay County High School gymnastics team knocked off a trio of challengers Saturday, taking first place at the Richmond Invitational.
The Patriots (4-1) posted a season-high score of 93.95 to finish three points ahead of the host Red Devils. Rushville was third at 74.7, and Lincoln was last with 73.25.
Kristen Ainsworth led the Patriots, posting a pair of career-best even scores on the way to a career-best all-around total.
The freshman won the balance beam with a career-best 8.1, and was second to teammate Erika Hunt on the floor exercise at 8.175. She was third on the bars with a team-best 7.35, and added a career-best vault score of 8.15 for fifth place.
She was second in the all-around at 31.775, and Hunt was third behind her in third at 31.6.
Hunt topped the Patriots on two events as well, highlighting her day with a season-best 8.6 to win the floor. The senior also led the team on the vault at 8.5 in third place, took second on the beam behind Ainsworth with a 7.55 and tied for sixth on the bars with teammate Stormi Metcalf at 6.95.
Junior Jenny Buckland was third on the beam (7.35) to complete a JCHS sweep, fourth on the floor (7.875) and fifth on the bars (7.05). Kendra Homan added a fourth-place effort with an 8.35 on the vault.
