Senior Kelli Whitenack has been chosen by U.S. Senator Evan Bayh as the Jay County High School representative for the third annual Indiana Service Leaders Summit. The summit aims to draw attention to the outstanding community service work performed by high school students across Indiana. It will be held on Oct. 22 (National Make a Difference Day) in Indianapolis.
Nearly two hundred students will attend the event. They are asked to begin collecting materials before the summit to be used in care packages to send to troops in Iraq. Senator Bayh will help students prepare the care packages.
Library events
The Jay County Public Library will have story times on Monday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. Story time will include four or five books read aloud, followed by a craft or special event based on the theme. Infants and young children are invited and must be accompanied by an adult. Please call the library at (260) 726-7890 if you plan to bring a large group.
The week of Oct. 16 through Oct. 22 is Teen Read Week at Jay County Public Library. The library will celebrate with Get Real at Your Library for teens in grades 6 to 12.
There will be pumpkin painting on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Registration is required.
On Thursday, Oct. 20, Games at the Library will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Bring a game of your own or play one of ours.
You can check a book out from the “Get Real” list at the desk and your name will be entered into a drawing. Read the real versus fake articles of famous people and answere questions. A drawing will be held of the correct answers. Write a poem with the words “get, real, at, your, library, contained anywhere in it and enter it in the poetry contest.

The next national test date for the ACT college admission and placement exam is Dec. 10. The deadline to register is Nov. 4 and the late registration deadline is Nov. 17.
