DEKALB — Patriots won their opening matches at two positions, but they went winless the rest of the way.
Jay County High School’s boys tennis team went 2-10 overall Saturday and scored seven points to place seventh out of eight teams at the DeKalb Invitational.
Angola scored 42 points at the event, doubling the total of the runner-up host Barons. JCHS finished one point behind Norwell and three ahead of West Noble.
Landry Inman fought off NorthWood’s Mitchell Keiser 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in his opening match at No. 1 singles.
He dropped hits next two matches to finish in fourth place.
Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor picked up a 7-6, 6-0 victory in their opener against the No. 1 doubles team from West Noble on the way to a fourth-place finish.

CONNERSVILLE — The Jay County High School girls golf team struggled Saturday, finishing with a score of 512 to place 13th out of 14 teams at the Connersville Invitational at Willowbrook Country Club.
Columbus East scored a 357 to win the event by eight strokes over Whiteland. JCHS was 24 strokes behind 12th-place Oldenburg Academy and three ahead of 14th-place Shelbyville.
Whitney Gray picked up the Patriots’ lone birdie on the 288-yard, par 4 15th hole. She also had three pars as she finished with a 114.
Alysia Fennig had two bogeys on the way to a 119, Maddison Baughn shot 130 and Abby Saxman finished with a 149.
Nichols places 6th
MONTPELIER — Travis Nichols picked up a pair of top-10 finishes Saturday at Montpelier Motor Speedway.
Nichols, Portland, turned in the top finish among local drivers as he placed sixth in one of the two Thunder Cars feature races.
He was the runner-up in the B main race, and advanced to finish seventh in the other Thunder Cars main event.
Brian Baldauf picked up an 11th-place effort in Thunder Cars.
Jamie Heiser of Fort Recovery was eighth in the Super Streets race. Richard Williams followed in 15th.
Tribe tops ’Skins
CELINA — The Fort Recovery high school boys golf team picked up its first dual-match win of the season Friday, 186-209 over the Fort Loramie Redskins at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Elijah Kahlig and Chase Bruns each shot 44 to lead the Indians. Bruns had one birdie and one par in his round, and Kahlig finished with a pair of pars.
Aaron Schwartz paced Fort Loramie with a 52.
Kent Retz finished with one par on the way to a 49, and Derek Backs and Josh Pohl also posted scores of 49 in the Fort Recovery win.
