Jay County runs over Mississinewa

GAS CITY - Brandon Reynard and Dexter Shreve picked up three wins apiece. The Patriot girls finished first in every event.

It was an overall dominant effort as the Jay County High School track teams rolled to victories of 105-18 (girls) and 84.5-38.5 (boys) over the host Mississinewa Indians.

Reynard continued his dominance with easy wins in the 100-meter dash in 11.43 seconds and the 200 dash at 23.07. He also cruised to victory in the 300 hurdles in 40.12.

Shreve finished off the sweep of the springs by taking the 400 dash by nearly four seconds in 51.07. He cleared the bar at 6 feet even to win the high jump, and led a Patriot sweep of the long jump at 17 feet, 8 ½ inches.

Reynard, Shreve, Kyle Simmons and Joe Rasmussen teamed to take the 4x400 relay in 3:41.85.

The JCHS girls team opened 7-0 for the third straight season behind two wins each from Brianne Wellman, Jordan McMillan and Maria Murphy.

Wellman, a senior, set the tone in the hurdles, winning the 100 with a time of 18.4 and the 300 in 52.3. McMillan took the 200 dash in 27.7 and the long jump at 14 feet, 5 ½ inches, and Murphy finished first in the shot put and discus with throws of 33 feet, 1 inch and 98 feet 11 inches respectively.

McMillan, Kelsey Wood, Tashina Smith and Morgan Link won the 4x100 relay in 55.7, and Wellman, Kari Hemmelgarn, Macey Gerber and Megan Taylor took the 4x400 relay at 4-minutes, 47 seconds.

Tevan Nichols also earned a pair of wins for the Patriot boys. He was first in the 800 run in 2:07.64 and the 1,600 run with a time of 4:45.17.

Nichols, Simmons, Rasmussen and Brady Mills won the 4x800 relay in 8:45. Austin Bentz was first in the 3,200 run at 12:03,17, and Lance Franklin had a winning toss of 45 feet even in the shot put.

Gerber finished in 1:09 to win the 400 dash for the Jay County girls, and Katie Simmons was first in the 3,200 run in 12:04. Brianne Wellman's twin sister Kylie took the 1,600 run in 6:13, and their sophomore sister Leah won the 800 run in 2:44.7.

Kylie Wellman, Leah Wellman, Simmons and Katie Butcher were first in the 4x800 relay as they crossed the finish line in 11:06.

Lindsey Current added a victory in the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch.[[In-content Ad]]
