Jay County scores four sweeps (06/13/05)

BLUFFTON — The Jay County Summer Swim Team won more than half of Saturday’s events to take the title at the Wabash Valley Conference Relays.
Jay County swept four age groups and won 28 out of 50 relays overall to score 746 points. South Adams was second with 618 points, and Wells Community took third at the five-team event with 444.
The same teams earned all five wins in both the 11-12- and 13-14-year-old boys divisions. Neal Fennig, Caleb Hummel, Richard Osterholt and Wiley Young were on the younger team, and Aaron Hudson, Perry Hull, Sam Miller and Chance Milligan made up the other.
Each group won the 200-yard medley relay, butterfly relay, backstroke relay, breaststroke relay and freestyle relay in their division.
In the 8-and-younger girls division Katy Smeltzer, Amelia Freeman, Sophie Bader and Annie Vormohr took the 100 medley relay, butterfly relay, backstroke relay and freestyle relay. Rhianon Mills teamed with Freeman, Bader and Vormohr for the sweep as they took the breaststroke relay.
Jay County used a variety of combinations for its final sweep in the 13-14-year-old girls division.
Two of the wins came from Michelle Landfair, Kelci Reed, Ivy Simons and Cori Vormohr as they took the 200 backstroke relay and the freestyle relay.
Lauren Murrell joined Simons, Vormohr and Landfair for the 200 medley relay win, and it was Maddie Fennig, Landfair, Simons and Vormohr in the 200 butterfly relay. Kelci Reed, Landfair, Murrell and Vormohr teamed for the 200 breaststroke relay win.
