Jay County sets season best again (02/07/08)

If the pattern continues, the Patriots will be a very difficult team to beat.

For the third straight meet the Jay County High School gymnastics team posted a season-best score, this time clobbering the visiting Muncie Central Bearcats 99.525-84.725.

Erika Hunt won a pair of events and the all-around competition to lead the Patriots, whose previous high score was 97.25. She was first in the floor exercise with a career-best 8.975 and the uneven bars at 8.2.

The senior also scored a second-place 8.8 on the vault and a 7.75 on the balance beam for her winning all-around total of 33.725.

Fellow senior Kendra Homan posted the other win for JCHS with an 8.9 on the vault.

Freshman Kristen Ainsworth was the only Patriot to place on all four events, finishing second on the vault (8.8), floor (8.5) and beam (8.4) and third on the bars (8.0).

Jenny Buckland was third on the beam at 8.0.

Winning junior varsity events for the Patriots were Homan (bars - 6.4), Kyle Kelso (vault - 8.0), Melynda Brackman (floor - 7.3) and Stormi Metcalf (beam - 6.85).

Freshmen edge Indians

ANDERSON - Jay County High School's boys basketball C team pulled out a 43-42 victory Wednesday over the host Anderson Indians.

Taylor Farmer scored 10 points for the Patriots, broke a halftime tie to lead by one after three quarters en route to the win. John Pettus added eight points, and Anthony Skeens finished with seven.

JCHS lost the B game, 14-4, with Tyler Claycomb and Ryan Miskinis each scoring two points.

Chiefs defeat HC

HARTFORD CITY - The East Jay Middle School sixth grade girls basketball team improved to 10-1 Wednesday with a 19-16 victory over Hartford City.

Katie Aker paced the Chiefs with five points. Katlin Petro had four points and eight rebounds, and Abigail Johnson finished with four points and six boards.

Sara Bollenbacher finished with 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the B team (8-1) to a 35-4 victory.
