Jay County swimmers win WVC

BERNE — The Jay County Summer Swim Team set seven conference and team records Saturday at the Berne Pool, as it won its third consecutive Wabash Valley Conference Championship.
For the second straight meet, at least six records were broken. Jay swimmers set six Portland Pool records Tuesday when they defeated Celina.
Jay County’s record-setting day at the WVC meet was highlighted by Alex Bader, whose 36.43 in the 13-14 girls breaststroke tied her sister Sophie’s record set at last season’s conference meet.
Anne Vormohr set new conference and team records in the 15-and-older girls long freestyle, short freestyle and backstroke.
Sophie Bader set new records in the 15-and-older girls butterfly and individual medley.
The 15-and-older medley relay team of Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader, Caitlin Mark and Katy Smeltzer also set a new conference and team record.
The four Bader sisters, Mara (8-and-younger), Eliza (9-10-year-old), Alex (13-14-year-old) and Sophie (15-and-older) and their cousin Anne Vormohr (15-and-older were all triple event winners in the five-team meet.
Lillian Clemmons and Josh Lykins were double event champions, winning the 9-10-year-old girls butterfly and backstroke and the 15-and-older boys long freestyle and short freestyle respectively.
Joshua Monroe (8-and-younger boys breaststroke) and Luke Nichols (11-12-year-old boys breaststroke) won their first conference championship of their swimming career. Ashlyn Dow added a conference victory in the 9-10-year-old girls breaststroke.
The winning relays for Jay County included 9-10-year-old girls medley (Rieley Brewster, Ashlyn Dow, Eliza Bader, Lillian Clemmons), 9-10-year-old girls freestyle relay (Abilene Hough, Ashlyn Dow, Lillian Clemmons, Eliza Bader), 11-12-year-old boys medley and freestyle (Christopher McDowell, Luke Nichols, Tayler Smeltzer, David Ostrowski), 13-14-year-old girls medley (Cassie Reno, Jamie Valentine, Alex Bader, Sarah Walter), 15-and-over girls medley (Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader, Caitlin Mark, Katy Smeltzer), 15-and-older girls freestyle relay (Katy Smeltzer, Ashley Mark, Sophie Bader, Caitlin Mark), and 15-and-older boys (Zane Shreve, Jeb Roberts, Sok Vormohr, Josh Lykins)
