Jay County tankers fall to Norwell (02/26/04)

Jay County’s middle school swim teams each lost to Norwell Wednesday. The boys team dropped a 113-70 decision, and the girls team fell by a 103-81 score.

Two swimmers from each team earned victories, with Trey Dunn and Steven Kelly leading the boys while Cori Vormohr and Briann Saxman paced the girls.

Kelly captured his victory in the 400-yard freestyle. Dunn was first in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Vormohr picked up a couple of wins, taking first place in the individual medley and the 50-yard butterfly. Saxman was first in the 200-yard freestyle, and also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle.

Other second-place finishes for Jay County came from Chance Milligan, Lance VanSkyock, Spencer Backer, Ryan Sutton, Kelci Reed, Michelle Landfair and Ivy Simons.

Eagles fall

The West Jay sixth grade boys basketball team slipped back to 3-2 on the season with a 44-32 loss to Hartford City.

The Eagles trailed by five points at the end of the third and were down by the same margin, 23-18, at halftime. Hartford City outscored them 10-4 in the third quarter to pull away.

Josh Beaty scored 12 points to lead West Jay, and Taylor Farmer added 10. Mike Daniels scored six points.

Jeremiah Cotherman, Deon Jeffers and Mike Masters each had two points for the B team.

Coon hunt

The Limberlost Coon Hunter Club will have a UKC licensed hunt Friday.

Those interested should meet at the clubhouse, located at 39 W 750 N in Bryant. The bench show deadline is 6:30 p.m. and the night hunt deadline is 8 p.m.

There will be a regular club meeting March 2 at 7 p.m.
