Jay County varsity wins D-One title

The Jay County High School boys varsity basketball team clinched the championship in a D-One camp over the weekend in Fort Wayne.
The varsity team went 10-3 in the league and won the championship to complete their summer competition tour. Jay County has been on the road playing in preparation for the winter season.
This year's varsity team will be a new look with Eric Homan as the only returning varsity player. Other players on the summer varsity team include Josh Beaty, Austen Cowan, Adam Daniels, Andy Haffner, Brad Horn, Garrett Krieg and Brock McFarland.
Jay County also fielded three other teams in competition for the D-One camp. The junior varsity 1 team, led by returning JV player Drew Houck, was 10-4; the junior varsity 2 team split an even 7-7; and the middle school team went 9-4.
West Jay soccer
All-time goals leader Daniel Fugiett boosted his total Monday night, putting in all four goals for the Lightning in a 4-3 win over the Twisters in the Storm Division of West Jay Community Center summer soccer.
Fugiett now has 68 total goals in three seasons. Triston Thrasher scored twice and Cole Brotherton
added a goal for the Twisters.
In the other game in the Storm division Monday, the Thunder blanked the Hurricanes 6-0. Leigha Stachler scored three goals, Delaynie Bennette booted two and Ryan McAbee netted one.[[In-content Ad]]
