Jay defeats Rebels and Panthers

MUNCIE - The Jay County High School girls swim team dived into its dual-meet season Thursday with a couple of victories.
The Patriots swept the double dual at Muncie Southside, topping the host Rebels 116-56 and Elwood 118-47. They won every event with the exception of the 200-yard freestyle.
Sophomores Mary Hudson and Eme Miller powered JCHS (2-0) with two victories apiece. Hudson was first in the 50 freestyle in 28.19 seconds and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 11.56 seconds, and Miller took the 200 individual medley in 2:32.87 and the 100 freestyle in 1:02.7.
Elaine Hemmelgarn, a junior, took the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.96, and Jocelyn Mann finished the 100 butterfly in a career-best time of 1:11.77 for first place.
Hudson, Miller, Hemmelgarn and Michelle Landfair won the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:08.04, and Hudson, Miller, Mann and Ruchgy were first in the 400 freestyle at 4:24.88.
Megan Taylor placed first in the diving competition by nearly 60 points with a total of 161.35. Katie Simmons earned the 500-freestyle victory with a time of 6:38.71.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Landfair, Ruchgy, Marissa Murrell and Martyna Gajewska finished in 1:58.8 for first place.[[In-content Ad]]
