Jay ends skid with win in 10 (05/11/07)
JCHS softball
DECATUR - After three consecutive one-run losses, the Patriots were not going to let it happen again.
Even after the Bellmont Squaws rallied with three runs to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning the Jay County softball team held tough. It traded runs with the Squaws in the ninth inning and then took a 7-4 victory with three runs in the 10th.
Freshman Pazia Speed started the game-winning rally with a single, and junior Amber Edmundson followed with a walk. Another freshman, Lindsey Wellman, gave the Patriots (12-7) the lead for good as she smacked a triple off the fence in left-center field.
Senior Ashley Bunch followed with a squeeze bunt to score Wellman, and Shae Keller finished a complete-game victory with a one-two-three bottom of the 10th.
Keller outlasted three pitchers from Bellmont (10-6) to improve to 9-6 on the season. The senior allowed three runs - four earned - on five hits and three walks as she went the distance. She struck out six batters.
Wellman's triple in the 10th inning completed a three-RBI day. Morgan Locke had two hits, a run and a stolen base, and Edmundson singled and scored twice.[[In-content Ad]]
