In the first half, the Patriots couldn’t quite keep up with the Indians.
The Jay County High School’s girls basketball team struggled against Anderson’s full-court pressure defense and attacking offense, falling behind by 15 at halftime Thursday in a 50-36 loss to the visiting Indians.
Mariah Hornaday paced the Patriots (11-7) as she scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half. Maria Murphy added 12 points for JCHS, which was without freshman point guard Catherine Dunn for the third straight game.
Sharice Jones paced Anderson (14-4) with 13 points, and Jireh Hart added nine.
In the junior varsity game, Abbi Dunlavy scored 13 points and Katlin Petro had 11 as the Patriots fell just short in a 34-32 loss.

Chief wrestlers roll

GASTON — Six pins powered the East Jay Middle School wrestling team to a 54-12 victory Thursday over the host Wes-Del Warriors.
Henry Hemmelgarn (87), Ivan Hemmelgarn (97), Mitchell Bruggeman (112), Alex Stout (127), Levi Hummel (147) and Jacob Ferguson (177) all picked up pins for the Chiefs. Mitchell Bruggeman (112) added a victory by technical fall.

EJMS 7th wins
East Jay’s seventh grade boys basketball team picked up its 11th victory Thursday, 30-19 over visiting Muncie Wilson. The eighth grade team lost 39-28.
Ryan Burkett scored 10 points to power the Chiefs (11-3). Jay Houck added nine points.
Adam Dirksen tallied 12 points as the EJMS eighth graders fell to 4-12. Bowen Runyon chipped in eight points.[[In-content Ad]]
