Jay, Fort announce all-conference honorees (11/03/06)
Jay County High School announced its all-conference honorees Thursday at its fall sports awards ceremony. Also, four Fort Recovery football players earned All-Midwest Athletic Conference honors when the league released its award winners.
The Patriot football and girls soccer teams led the JCHS teams with five All-Olympic Athletic Conference selections apiece. Seniors Corey Comer, Alex Michael and Casey Waters and juniors Clint Muhlenkamp and Michael Jobe picked up the award for the football team. For the girls soccer team, it was senior Sara Garringer, juniors Tequila Guntle and Abby Loy and sophomores Brianne Wellman and Kaelee Keller.
Also selected to All-OAC teams were seniors Luke McClung, who also earned all-district honors, Scott Bruggeman and Derek Mills from the boys soccer team and Theresa Reinhart from the volleyball team.
Jay County won OAC titles in football, girls soccer and girls cross country, and coaches Shane Hill, Sue Rager and Les Bantz were rewarded with conference Coach of the Year honors in their respective sports.
All-conference honors in girls and boys cross country, boys tennis and girls golf were determined by performance in the OAC tournaments.
The Patriots' entire top-five from the girls cross country team earned the award as they all finished in the top seven. Honorees were junior Amanda Johnson (first), sophomore Kylie Wellman (second), senior Jessica Mosier (fifth), freshman Kari Hemmelgarn (sixth) and senior Allison Fullenkamp (seventh).
Kyle Simmons, Mark Alberson and Adam Horn earned All-OAC awards in boys tennis, and Trisha Champ was honored for her second-place finish in the girls golf tournament.
Senior Matt Tobe was the top player for the Fort Recovery football team, earning All-Midwest Athletic Conference honorable mention for both offense and defense.
Others picking up honorable mention were Chuck Shier, Eric Weitzel and Toby Metzger.
The MAC offensive Player of the Year was Andy Puthoff of St. Henry, and the defensive Player of the Year was Parkway's Jordan Thompson.
