The Jay County and Fort Recovery summer swim teams, who will face off tonight at Portland Pool, each picked up victories Tuesday.
The 8-and-younger girls powered the Jay County Summer Swim Team to a 725-374 victory at home over Union City. The Fort Recovery Eels got three wins from seven different swimmers in a 765-539 win over the visiting Coldwater Cudas.
Jay County (3-1) took first, second and third places in every 8-and-younger girls event, with Eliza Bader first in the long freestyle and short freestyle. Leah Hummel took the top spot in the butterfly, Kearsten Myers on the backstroke, Ashlyn Dow was first in the individual medley and Lilly Clemmons earned the victory in the breaststroke. Others contributing to the sweep were Mara Bader, Rieley Brewster, Grace Lavy, Ryleigh Oswalt, Elayna Paro, Emma Swingley and Avery Vormohr.
Regan Martin and Gavin Thobe combined to win every race in the 8-and-younger boys events for Fort Recovery, with Martin taking the butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke. Thobe’s wins came in the long freestyle, short freestyle and individual medley.
Marshall Hull added victories in the 15-and-older boys butterfly, backstroke and individual medley.
In addition to the 8-and-younger girls division, Jay County swept the top spot in four other divisions as it won 17-of-19 relays and 47 of 60 individual events. Earning three wins apiece were Taylor Smeltzer, Daniel Ostrowski, Alex Bader, Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader, Eme Miller and Mary Hudson.
Double winners were Erica Hathaway, Kaitlyn Down, Sydney Mathias, Levi Hummel, Josh Lykins and Zane Shreve.
In girls competition Ava Bubp won the 8-and-young long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley for Fort Recovery, and Cassidy Martin took the 9-10-year-old long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke. Carley Stone was first in the 11-12-year-old girls long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley, and her sister, Cori, picked up wins in the 13-14-year-old girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.[[In-content Ad]]
