Jay freshman teams stay hot (12/14/04)

The wins are coming in bunches for the Jay County freshman basketball teams.

The girls team stayed perfect Monday, topping the Southern Wells Raiders at home, 45-19. At Hartford City, the Patriot boys team picked up its fifth straight victory by a 49-29 score over the Blackford Bruins.

The Jay County girls (6-0) dominated the entire game, outscoring the Raiders in every quarter. They scored in double digits in three periods, while holding Southern Wells to just four points in three quarters.

Katie Runyon and Brittany O’Dell each reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Runyon also came up with four steals.

Shelby Rines had a big night, coming up with nine points to go along with team highs of seven rebounds and six steals. Sharon Dirksen added eight points, and Amber Edmundson notched seven.

The Patriot boys (5-1), who have not lost since the opening game against Delta, went up by 11 points after the first quarter. The lead jumped to 18 points at the half as Jay County cruised to the win.

Heath Rigby finished with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Brandon Buckland scored eight of his 10 points in the first quarter.

Zach Hummer had seven points, and Michael Jobe and Aaron Daniels each scored six.

Tribe starts slow

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team stumbled to start the game and the second half as it fell to a 45-37 loss to the Minster Wildcats Monday.

The Indians (0-2) fell behind 14-8 after the first period. They were down by five at halftime before being outscored 13-8 in the third period in the defeat.

Bobby Rammel and Ben Tobe each scored 11 points. Rammel also had four rebounds, and Greg Tobe grabbed a team-best six boards.

Luke Bihn finished with eight points.[[In-content Ad]]
